Sydney prices, 2026

What should solar and a battery cost in Sydney?

A home battery in Sydney typically costs $8,550 to $10,925 installed for an 8 to 13 kWh system, after the federal battery discount. Solar on its own runs at about $800 to $1,100 per kW installed. New South Wales adds a 0% interest loan for solar and batteries, and a separate payment when a battery joins a virtual power plant.

Home battery prices in Sydney

These are general ranges, built from Verified Solar's own installer pricing. Battery prices are installed and already include the federal Cheaper Home Batteries discount.

Installed home battery prices in Sydney, after the federal discount
Battery sizeTypical installed price
8 to 13 kWh$8,550 to $10,925
14 to 22 kWh$10,700 to $13,650
23 to 31 kWh$13,650 to $17,450
32 to 40 kWh$16,650 to $21,250
41 to 49 kWh$19,600 to $25,050

Prices as at 21 August 2026. Three-phase homes usually need different hardware, so the installer prices those individually. Storage above 50 kWh sits outside the federal discount.

Solar panel prices

Solar on its own: about $800 to $1,100 per kW, covering panels, racking and the inverter. A 6.6 kW system works out at roughly $5,280 to $7,260.

Solar added alongside a battery: about $400 to $750 per kW. It is lower because the battery's hybrid inverter runs the panels too, so the inverter is already in the battery price. As an example, 6.6 kW of panels with a 13 kWh battery comes to roughly $11,190 to $15,875 all up.

The right size depends on your bill, when you use power and your roof, not on the postcode. Ray sizes it from your actual usage and gives you the range for that system.

What does New South Wales add?

The Home Energy Saver Program offers a 0% interest loan of $2,000 to $15,000, repaid over up to 10 years, for solar, batteries and other home electrification. Combined household taxable income must be $210,000 or less.

The Peak Demand Reduction Scheme pays roughly $720 to $1,500 when an eligible battery is connected to a virtual power plant. It is for the battery only, and it stacks with the federal battery discount.

The federal programs apply in full: the Cheaper Home Batteries discount on the battery, and small-scale technology certificates (STCs) on the panels. Your installer claims both and takes them off the quote, so you never apply for them yourself.

The battery discount can only be claimed once per property. Spend it on a system that is too small and it is spent, so the size decision is worth getting right the first time.

Free midday power in Sydney

New South Wales is covered by the Solar Sharer Offer, which started on 1 July 2026. Eligible plans give at least three hours of free electricity each day, from 11am to 2pm. You do not need solar panels to use it. With a battery, that window can charge the battery at no energy charge on an eligible plan, which makes a battery more worthwhile.

The catch: retailers can recover the cost through higher rates outside the free window, and the saving only shows up if you shift usage into it.

Your electricity network

Homes in Sydney are on the Ausgrid and Endeavour Energy networks, depending on the suburb. Your network approves how much power a new system is allowed to send back to the grid, and your installer handles that application as part of the job.
