How much do solar panels cost in Australia?
The short answer
Solar panels cost about $800 to $1,100 per kW installed in Australia in 2026, including the inverter. A 6.6 kW system comes to roughly $5,280 to $7,260 and a 10 kW system roughly $8,000 to $11,000, after the federal solar rebate.

Solar prices by system size
These are installed prices for solar on its own, covering panels, racking and the inverter. The federal solar rebate is claimed by the installer and already taken off, so you never claim it yourself.
| System size | Typical installed price |
|---|---|
| 6.6 kW | $5,280 to $7,260 |
| 8 kW | $6,400 to $8,800 |
| 10 kW | $8,000 to $11,000 |
| 13.2 kW | $10,560 to $14,520 |
Why is solar cheaper per kW with a battery?
Added alongside a battery, solar drops to about $400 to $750 per kW. The battery comes with a hybrid inverter that runs the panels too, so the inverter is already in the battery price and the panels only need racking and installation.
As an example, 6.6 kW of panels with a 13 kWh battery comes to roughly $11,190 to $15,875 all up.
What makes one quote dearer than another?
Two quotes for the same size system can be thousands apart and both be honest. The difference is what goes on the roof and who stands behind it.
- Panel and inverter brand, efficiency and warranty length.
- The roof: which way it faces, shading and how many faces the panels are spread across.
- Single-phase or three-phase power. Three-phase homes often need different hardware, so the installer prices those individually.
- Any meter board work the job needs.
Is the cheapest quote the best deal?
On the headline number, sometimes. But the usual way to a much lower price is a smaller system than the home needs, or cheaper components and a rushed install. An undersized system costs you in savings you never see, and a poor install costs you in repairs or paying twice. Neither shows up on the quote.
A fair quote names the exact panel and inverter models in writing, gives the system size, and comes from an installer with current SAA accreditation.
Common questions
How much is a 6.6 kW solar system?
About $5,280 to $7,260 installed in 2026, including the inverter and after the federal solar rebate.
How much is a 10 kW solar system?
About $8,000 to $11,000 installed in 2026, including the inverter and after the federal solar rebate.
Is the federal solar rebate included in these prices?
Yes. The installer claims the federal solar rebate and takes it off the quote, so these prices already include it. You do not claim it yourself.
How long do solar panels take to pay for themselves?
It depends on your usage, your roof and your electricity plan, so we do not publish a payback figure. A verified local installer can run the numbers for your home.
