How much does a home battery cost in Australia?
The short answer
A typical home battery of 8 to 13 kWh costs about $8,550 to $10,925 installed in Australia in 2026, after the federal Cheaper Home Batteries discount. Larger batteries of 14 to 22 kWh run about $10,700 to $13,650.

Home battery prices by size
These are installed prices, with the federal battery discount already taken off. They are built from our verified installers' own pricing. For your home, a verified installer works through your numbers and gives you their best price.
| Battery size | Typical installed price |
|---|---|
| 8 to 13 kWh | $8,550 to $10,925 |
| 14 to 22 kWh | $10,700 to $13,650 |
| 23 to 31 kWh | $13,650 to $17,450 |
| 32 to 40 kWh | $16,650 to $21,250 |
| 41 to 49 kWh | $19,600 to $25,050 |
What changes the price?
Within each range, the final price depends mostly on these things:
- The battery brand and model, and its warranty.
- Whether you already have a compatible inverter, or need a hybrid inverter as part of the job.
- Single-phase or three-phase power. Three-phase homes usually need different hardware, so the installer prices those individually.
- Where the battery goes and how far it is from the switchboard.
- Any switchboard upgrade the installation needs.
Is the federal discount already included?
Yes. The Cheaper Home Batteries discount is applied by the installer and taken off the quote, so you never claim it yourself. All the battery prices on this page already include it.
The discount applies only up to 50 kWh of storage. Above that, storage is not subsidised, so the cost per kWh goes up.
What about adding solar panels?
Solar on its own costs about $800 to $1,100 per kW installed. Added alongside a battery it drops to about $400 to $750 per kW, because the battery's hybrid inverter runs the panels too.
As an example, 6.6 kW of panels with a 13 kWh battery comes to roughly $11,190 to $15,875 all up.
How do I know if a quote is fair?
Hold it up against the ranges above for the same battery size. A quote well above the range should come with a clear reason, such as three-phase power or a switchboard upgrade. A quote well below it is worth asking about: the usual way to a lower number is a smaller system than the home needs, or corners cut on the install.
Check the quote names the exact battery, inverter and panel models in writing, and that the installer holds current SAA accreditation.
Common questions
How much is a 13 kWh battery in Australia?
A battery in the 8 to 13 kWh range typically costs $8,550 to $10,925 installed in 2026, after the federal battery discount.
How much is a 20 kWh battery?

Do state rebates come off these prices?
No. State incentives are not included in these ranges. Queensland has no current state battery rebate. NSW has a 0% loan for eligible households and an incentive for connecting a battery to a virtual power plant. Eligibility rules apply.
How long does a battery take to pay for itself?
It depends on your bill, when you use power and your electricity plan, so we do not publish a payback figure. A verified local installer can run the numbers for your home.
